CHAPTER ONE
Gen­er­ally, Mar­sha Rob­bins fol­lowed the main thor­ough­fare from San Ber­trand to Crater Heights, the com­par­at­ively new res­id­en­tial sec­tion where the small sub­urban city’s pro­fes­sional and up­per middle-class had mi­grated in ba­sic so­cial-strata se­greg­a­tion, though such had not been the lovely, twenty-nine year old, au­burn-haired at­tor­ney’s reas­ons. The pic­tur­esque area was less-smog pol­luted, quieter, and one’s neigh­bors were sep­ar­ated by siz­able, land­scaped grounds rather than pa­per-thin apart­ment walls... be­sides, she could well af­ford her taste­fully fur­nished, two bed­room home. Wasn’t she go­ing to be San Ber­trand’s next Dis­trict At­tor­ney?
The green-eyed beauty made a pleas­ing and con­fid­ent little smile to her­self, ma­nip­u­lat­ing her sports car skill­fully, happy that she had chosen the more scenic and less traveled Hill Drive that even­tu­ally wound its way into the Heights. Ac­tu­ally, some three miles by the main drag stretched between her home and down-town of­fice, but it was such a gor­geous Cali­for­nia day... just per­fect for med­it­a­tion... that the quiet ‘back-way’ had ap­pealed to her over the hustle-bustle of San Ber­trand Av­enue.
